Motherboard dead…
I think my Erae may have just fried my Synthstrom Deluge in a similar way.
I guess I'm a little weary about first time play. I'll wait until there's more about this from Embodme.
Hrm. I wonder if I encountered a similar issue. A powered USB hub I was using to connect to the Computer / Power port (note: not the dedicated USB Power port) unexpectedly died a few weeks ago. All of my other attached devices went out on the middle of a Discord call and I only later diagnosed it that the USB hub was no longer functioning as expected.
It looks like my laptop's USB current isn't enough to power Erae 2, so I'm using the power supply included in the kit.
One day I turned off Erae with the switch on the side and disconnected that power supply from Erae while it was connected to the computer. My laptop and all other devices went dark immediately. Fortunately, all ports work fine after reboot. And it repeated again the next day.
I don't want to give up on Erae; I really like that thing. Is there a safe way to use it?
Hey everyone,
Just wanted to drop a quick note here, even though we've already been in touch with most of you individually about repairs.
We've seen about 10 units come back with a faulty MOSFET, which caused a voltage to leak from the power port to the device port. Normally, this wouldn’t be a big deal—most USB host ports have protection and would just shut down or give a warning. But unfortunately, not all computer manufacturers include those safeguards, which can lead to bigger issues.
We caught this early on and swapped out the component for a much more robust one. Needless to say, that MOSFET manufacturer is now on our blacklist.
The improved component is in place on most of the product of the first batch, and obviously every new order have it. Also, we haven’t seen any cases where the part worked fine at first and then failed later, so it looks like the issue is under control.
We're really sorry to anyone who had to deal with this before we rolled out the fix. If you've been affected, reach out—we’ll do our best to make it right.
As always, feel free to contact us if you have any questions.
Cheers,
Mathieu
Would it be possible to release Serial Numbers of the ones with bad MOSFET's?
Are all Erae's leaving your factory/distribution centre now safe?
I just got my Erae back from repair after it FRIED my Synthstrom Deluge for the second time (because I didn't assume the Erae was the culprit the first time). Embodme confirmed it was their product that did the sizzling. I clearly asked for a RETURN and not a repair, because quite frankly, it is hard to trust this product anymore. They ignored my request for a return. So now I have an MPE controller and no MPE instrument to control.
Hi Rogan,
We apologize for the confusion, from our exchanges we had understood that you wanted your Erae2 to be repaired if we confirmed that using USB-host and USB-device were safe. As the issue was identified and we thoroughly tested your unit after the repair to ensure everything was good, we proceed with shipping you back your unit!
But we apologize if there has been some misunderstanding and we are reaching out to you directly to resolve this :)
Thanks !
I just got one. It appeared to come straight from china so I was assuming it’s from a newer batch. However I’m having some usb port issues as well. Not sure if it’s related. Sometimes I can’t get the unit to turn on. When I have the teenage engineering KO II plugged into the usb host port and as soon as I route notes to it the KO II locks up and sometimes the ERAE locks up also.
on a positive note I love the new pad material. Feels great. Looks great. Looper blows the old sequencer out of the water. I hope they make the looper more robust. Too limited now. Quick release dock is good. All the ports are great. These are great control surfaces and I hope they do well for Embodme.
Maybe I got an older one because the pad has indentations like where someone kept their fingers resting. I don’t care so much about the pad but the usb power issue does bother me.
@Adi if you got it 5 days ago, then you have nothing to worry about. The discussed isue is fixed.
@Todd, the behaviour you are talking about is most probably totally unrelated to an hardware issue, this sounds like a software issue like a MIDI loop that locks up both units. I see you opened a ticket, we will investigate together! And thanks a lot for the kind words :)

Received Erae touch 2 two days ago and tonight wanted to make few tries to learn more about functionnalities. Plugged the Touch 2 on sector, started my PC and launched Ableton. At first the Touch was not recognised by Live, and then appeared a « USB power peak issue » pop up and the PC shut down by itself. Since then the PC doesn’t want to start anymore…meanwhile power supply is ok, so I’m afraid for my motherboard. Gonna bring it to a repair shop tomorrow…so take care with your stuff. I’ll tell more after diag…
